The charger is on the wall, the car charges correctly and the installer has left. The next day, another family member arrives first. This is when handover quality shows: can they charge with their own access, and do they know who handles later changes?
Separate daily use from system administration. Zaptec roles support that division: family members charge independently while changes have a clear owner.
Not everyone in a family manages the same things
Two family members use the home charger in our example. Julia manages household subscriptions and charger discussions. Mark charges daily but rarely handles new access or technical settings. The installer deals with electrical work.
As system owner, Julia needs management functions. Mark needs personal access for daily charging. The installer needs technical permission for the authorised work.
This makes daily life easier. Mark need not wait for Julia to charge; Julia knows where to add a family member; and technical questions have a clear contact.
Scope matters as well as role
Zaptec uses the roles User, Owner and Service. Its app guide distinguishes access to one charger from access to an entire installation (Zaptec roles in the app).
Clarify both what a person may do and which charger or installation the right covers. Managing one home unit differs from overseeing every charger in a shared car park.
| Person | Daily task | Handover check |
|---|---|---|
| Julia, system owner | Manage access and operation | Her account reaches the required management interface |
| Mark, regular user | Charge the car | His own access can start charging |
| Installer | Authorised technical work | Appropriate Service access to the system concerned |
The table reflects this example. Assign rights to the charger or installation the person will manage, then test them.
Everyone should perform the first test with their own access
The installer's successful test is important technical handover. Family usability is proven when Julia and Mark can also charge with their own account or registered identifier.
At the end, Mark should plug in, identify himself and confirm charging starts. Julia should locate the interface she will later use for access tasks.
If a device is missing from an account, first check the email address and assigned access. Creating an account and allowing it to use a specific charger are separate steps. Finish only after the daily user charges with personal access.
A new family member can join without losing order
Months later, a third family member begins charging regularly. The original handover means everyone knows who grants entry and how new access is tested.
An installation owner can manage users and chargers and control access in Zaptec Portal (Portal management options). Shared or provider-managed systems must also follow the operator's process.
The new user repeats Mark's short test. If consumption must be shown by person, also confirm their first session appears under their name in the report. Access can be added without sharing login details.
When someone else moves in, hand over charger administration too
The charger may remain when another person moves into the property, but administration must transfer. Prepare its identifier, associated service and transfer date.
The new owner should start with their own account; resolve old access through the official transfer process. Then test a new session and confirm the right device and actions are available.
If consumption is settled, record a closing figure at the same time. This preserves when administration changed and which period belongs to whom.
Add three tasks to technical handover
Name the access administrator, have every regular user start a session with personal access and retain the technical contact details. Also record who produces reports if needed.
Permissions work well when the family charges independently and every change has an owner. Test that on day one alongside the device.
Will several people use the charger?
On our contact page, tell us how many will charge, who will manage the system and whether the car park is private or shared. We can discuss the Zaptec solution that fits your access needs.
